… wow this is supposed to be the longest headline I’ve ever wrote…

This year we celebrate the 20th anniversary of our populare street festival. The unique proposition of it is that there’s not one event management that is responsable for the whole festival but each inhabitant, pub, club and organisation. So you’ll find many different things with its own character. There’s no corporated design but lots of lovely selfmade actions.

By the way BRN means in German Bunte Republik Neustadt and in Englsih Colouful Republic of (Dresden-) Neustadt.

As appasionados of the BRN we have something prepared for you, too (thanks to our local heroes Martin and Kai): Loads of concerts. And here is the plan:

For this weekend our hostel will also be the location of the embassy of the Belorussian internet repuvlic Narod.lu.  Yes, indeed. So check-out what they have prepared for you.

Wie jedes Jahr dürfen wir uns wieder auf die Festivalsaison freuen. Auch hier in der Umgebung gibt es mehr oder weniger bekannte, die ich euch mal hier auflisten möchte:

Sun Flower Festival. 23. bis 25.07.2010

Es wird immer größer und größer. Vor nun mehr als fast 7 Jahren haben die Betreiber in Freiberg mit einer Bühne, Strohballen und einem Badewannenfass angefangen, soweit ich mich da erinnern kann. Nun stehen wir bei 6 Bühnen, wo ihr euch Ska, Rock, Reggae & Blues, Dub, Dancehall, Punk, Theater, Filme und Lesungen zu Genüge führen könnt. Auch diese Jahr gibt es Schwitzhütten und den berühmten Badezuber. Jonglage und weitere Workshops werden auch angeboten, aber das geilste ist die Miners‘ Stage, ein alter Stollen, 150 Meter unter der Erde, wo ihr wie die Maulwürfe abgehen könnt!

La Pampa Festival. 09. bis 11.07. 2010

Schon ziemlich bekannt. Bei Görlitz werden euch die ‚Flashguns, ‚Tocotronic‘ oder ‚get well soon‘ geboten. Desweiteren gibts ein Filmzelt, eine Strandlounge (das Ganze findet ja auch im Freibad statt) und die dazu gehörige Schwimmbar. Zelten, chillen, tanzen!

Die Tante Ju im Industriegelände präsentiert live Blues im open Air Bereich und im Club von Sizilien bis zum Nordpol. Für Essen ist gesorgt und zelten kann man auch.

Mein absoluter Geheimtip! Letztes Jahr wars fast schon zu voll für ein noch handgemachtes Festival. Klein aber fein und mit viel Liebe! Das Wichtigste allerdings ist, jeder darf und soll mitmachen! Wenn ihr also ein paar kräftige Hände, Ideen oder ne Gitarre habt, dann los! Das erste Treffen dazu findet hier in Dresden in der Praxis (Löbtau) am 30. Mai statt. Bringt Essen mit und lasst eure Schuhe zu Hause.

Dresdner Drumfestival 18. und 19.09.2010

Hier gehts um Pauken, Becken, Tablas und Drumsets. Alles um den Trommelschlag zeigen euch namhafte Trommler aus aller Welt. 12 Konzerte und 25 Workshops auf vier Bühnen. Tatort: Scheune und Groovestation Dresden.

Tickets sind schon erhältlich, leider konnte ich keine Angabe zum Preis finden, kann aber nicht sooo viel sein.

Damit dürftet ihr gut durch den Sommer kommen. Wem noch was einfällt oder falls ich ein Festival vergessen habe, der möge doch bitte seinen Senf dazu tun.

The other 17% are from further 24 countries like India, Brasil, South Africa, China, Russia, Southkorea, France and so on.

There is a new direct train connection between Dresden and Wrocław.  Trains go 3 times daily and depart from the main train station at 7:32, 13:31 and 17:31.  Trains from Wrocław to Dresden depart 7:05 Uhr, 13:05 and 18:05.  It takes three-and-a-half hours one way and it costs 39 €.  A family ticket costs 59 €, this is a good offer if two adults are travelling together.

So it would be even possible to go for a daytrip to Wrocław, if you would take the morning train there and the evening train back you will have around 7 hours for Wrocław.

Ein inzwischen schon zur Tradition gewordenes Event in Dresden ist das Nachtskaten.  Seit 1998 versammeln sich jeden Freitag Abend im Sommer etwa 3000 Skater um auf einer der Strecken zwischen 15-25 km Länge einen Rundkurs durch das Dresdner Stadtzentrum zu fahren.

Insgesamt gibt es fünf verschiedene Strecken, so daß die Touren immer abwechslungsreich bleiben.  Das Tempo ist „familienfreundlich“, so ist es bis heute eine Event für den Breitensport geblieben bei dem wirklich jeder mitmachen kann.

Beginn und Treffpunkt ist immer die Halfpipe an der Lignerallee, immer freitags um 21 Uhr von Ende April bis Anfang Oktober.  Der Saisonbeginn für dieses Jahr ist am 23. April.

Wer also mal Freitag Abend in Dresden unterwegs ist und was anderes machen will als in der Kneipe zu sitzen kann sich vor Ort auch ein paar Skates leihen und einfach mitfahren.  Sicher eine der spannendsten Varianten Dresden und seine Bewohner kennen zu lernen.

The new USE-IT map for young travellers just arrived!  In this second edition you will find again lots of useful information about Dresden and the real places to go to.

The maps will be available at the hostels, the tourist information, the train stations and in many hostels in the towns around Dresden, so you will be able to pick one up even before you arrive to Dresden.

USE-IT is tourist info for young people. USE-IT publications contain information that young travellers really need. Where are the free concerts? If there’s one museum I have to see, which one? Do girls also pay drinks around here? How do I stop looking like a tourist?

But what’s so special about this tourist info? Aren’t there enough websites, guidebooks, city maps, and brochures already that do the same things? No, because USE-IT maps and guidebooks are different:

FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
USE-IT does not make publications with „something for everybody“, but chooses to aim at a specific target group with specific needs.

NO-NONSENSE
USE-IT gives real information instead of promotional talk.

MADE BY LOCALS
USE-IT does not work with reporters from another country who go somewhere for a couple of weeks and then make a tourist guide, but with locals who have an inside view.

NOT COMMERCIAL
USE-IT does not let any shop, museum, restaurant, bar or club pay to be on the publications, but chooses independently. Also, USE-IT does not let young people pay to get the publications, but gives everything for free. The organization always works with government money.

UP-TO-DATE
USE-IT does not make a few phonecalls to update the prices of restaurants and hotels and then call it a new edition, but always checks all the information for every edition.
