Until the 31st of May 2015 you can visit the exhibition by Yadegar Asis inside the Panometer Dresden.

Today 70 years ago the allied forces bombed the Dresden city and destroyed most of it. You can see the result on a 360° panorama – titled “DRESDEN 1945”.

The bombing is visualized on a scale of 1:1 – viewed from the city town hall.

Meet the hostel staff – Jule

knutschende Jule

Jule ++ with us for almost 8 years (!) ++ “lovely receptionist”

Craziest experience during my time working for Lollis Homestay?

>> There have been so many crazy things going on at this hostel, I can’t retell them all. But I’ll say this much: At this hostel I have worked as a receptionist, realtor, tour guide, therapist, social worker, cleaning lady, philosopher, cook, etc… . The most thrilling incident however was definitely the encounter with a thief during a night shift. I was able to get the stolen goods back, but the guy escaped. He was too fast for me! <<

Most beautiful memory form my time at Lollis?

>> From over seas love storys, the christmas partys to the comfy living room atmosphere, I have made so many wonderful memories. Sometimes I call this place my second home. I love it when you meet people from all over the world, who share the same opinions about current political affairs or the economy. I makes me think positive about the future of this crazy planet. <<

What I love about Lollis Homestay?

>> Especially now, as Dresden has become the “White City” (PEGIDA), Lollis is one of the most important places in this city for me. Here reigns tolerance, openess and curiosity. We don’t just talk, this is our way of life.  Everyone is accepted, just the way they are. This does not only count for the employees, but also for the guests. <<

Logical Rain

Our receptionist Marc has spent his day off to visit the exhibition “Logical Rain” at the Japanese palais.

A treasure trove of Japanese craftsmanship has been rediscovered. For 125 years it layed undisturbed in the storage depot of the Kunstgewerbemuseum at Schloss Pillnitz: 92 cases containing more than 15,000 katagami dye stencils for textile printing, never been displayed and remained unknown beyond the confines of the museum’s collection. In this rich resource, Dresden possesses the world’s most extensive holdings of katagami designs. Now, for the first time ever, a selection of 140 of these hand-made, mulberry-tree bark paper sheets, finely cut using highly refined techniques in a lengthy, painstaking process, are to be shown to the public.

Katagami, stencils for printing traditional textile patterns, were used principally for kimono fabrics; as well as geometric ornament, designs also feature masterfully abstracted motifs and patterns representing elements of nature.

When the first katagami prints arrived in Europe in the 19th century, the highly sophisticated art of Japanese pattern design had a powerful influence on ornament in western fine arts, craftworks, and on the emerging discipline of industrial design. Today, stencil techniques are once again playing an important role in graffiti and street art.
