Festival for Club Culture (20.-29. October 2017)

Daveis a unique festival for Club Culture in Dresden, which not only gives a deep inside look into Dresden’s subculture, but also gives the opportunity to be individually active and creative as well, even if you are a layperson (everybody is welcome).

The festival offers a huge variety of different events, not only including plenty of different partys in the nicest clubs in Dresden, but also Live Shows, Meet& Greets with local, national or international DJ’s and artists or Workshops like “Artist Booking”, “VJin”, “DJing”, “Film Sounds”, “Brazing Synthesizers”, “Live Looping”,  “Art of Sampling”and much more. The workshops are hold by professional artists and DJ’s themselves.

Workshops where you do not need to sign up in advance are usually free.

If you wanna join a special Workshop, you should definitely sign up in advance if this is requested by writing an e- mail: workshops@dave-festival.de. Those workshops request an participant charge.

This year, besides plenty of artists, you can meet the famous German DJ Johannes Fröhlich, but also my personal favourite local DJ Felkon.

Did you know?

2ND EDITION: THE FIRST BRA IN THE WORLD

Did you know that Christine Hardt from Dresden applied for the first patent for a bra in the year 1899? She wanted to free woman from the corset, so she tied up some tissues and a men brace and voilá: “the first bra in the world” was invented! This bra was even adjustable. Back then the usual corset weighted around 5 kilogramme which was really not comfortable nor healthy (it caused unconsciousness, miscarriage and organ bruises). This new bra was worn above the shirt as old sketches show.

At nearly the same time (also in 1899)  Herminie Cadolle from France invented a similar more delicate bra. Till this point of time it is not quite sure who invented the bra first.

We know for sure that the idea to form and hold the womans breast was not new, woman also used leather tape for example to look more manly during sport competitions, like in the ancient Greece in Sparta.

Also the Romans invented some kind of sports wear for woman, which look pretty much like a bra already.

BRN Festival 16. to 18. June 2017

The Bunte Republik Neustadt, short BRN (which is the biggest event for most of the Dresdeners of the year in town. It is also the biggest neighbour festival in the country) exists already since 1990.

the official BRN flag, Mickey Mouse symbolised freedom back in the 90’s for us Dresdeners

Short after the reunion of West and East Germany, the atmosphere was split: most of the young people were afraid of the new capitalistic system, they were unoriented. And so some guys came to the idea to organise a new republic, an area, which they bordered with white colour on the streets: the “Äussere Neustadt quarter” with an autonomic character. They established a new currency: the BRN Mark (which you can still buy as souvenir at the “Geldschneider” on “Alaunstrasse 29” … Jäkel, the owner is one of 20 existing coin-cutters in whole of Germany) and they elected a monarch and ministers as well.

Since then it is tradition to celebrate the foundation of the BRN every year with a big festival: self made food, rave- balconies, stages with a lot of different bands, samba drum sessions, DJ´s and partys on the streets, readings, theatre,… all made by locals and their children.

Aluna stage in “Alaunpark”

The festival became quite capitalistic and touristy over the last years, so if you decide to visit us and our beautiful neighbourhood, you should really watch out for the smaller streets, avoid the big beer stands and buy food and drinks at the (better) local stands and please: chill, enjoy and respect the locals and our neighbourhood!

“Paul van der Braach”, everybody knows everybody in the Neustadt: “Hello Paul!!” :D

House on Louisenstrasse corner Martin- Luther Strasse: the locals who live there are decorating all their balconies with a different theme every year: 2 years ago: “Computer- Robot House”

details:

starts: on 16. June from around 4pm

ends: on 18. June until around 8pm

no parties and music between 1am and 1pm

entrance: completely free, all events

where: the whole “Äussere Neustadt” quarter

special: closed for all cars

Karl May Fest 26.-28.05.2017

Karl May Fest– One of my favourites!

This traditional local festival celebrates the German writer Karl May, author of dozens of books about the Wild West like “Winnetou”.

He was fascinated by the Wild West and the Orient, but only

in 1908 shortly before he died he was able to visit North America (Buffalo, Niagara Water Falls, Albany).

Karl May was born in 1842 and he lived and died in Radebeul in 1912 (a small town very close to Dresden). This is why the town of Radebeul celebrates this awesome festival! The festival will be celebrated in the “Lößnitzgrund” along the small Lößnitz River (a very beautiful part of Radebeul, near the vineyards, a forest and the very old part of town with nice frame houses).

On the huge festival area you can see horse riding competitions, a Native- American Camp (mostly run by European fans in costumes), the Cowboy Camp or the traditional train raid (with a real steam train, called the “Lößnitz- Dackel”) but you can also eat, drink or go for gold- seeking in the river and much more!

Everybody is dressed as Old Shatterhand or Winnetou or other fictitious people from the books.

Get there

by tram No. 4 from Dresden, direction “Radebeul” or “Coswig” to “Radebeul Weintraube” to “Landesbühnen Sachsen” station

or take the S- Bahn S1 direction “Meissen” to Radebeul-Ost” station

prices

free entrance on Friday

9 € for adults on Saturday

7 € for adults on Sunday

(cheaper if you buy a weekend ticket in advance at Karl-May-Museum Radebeul, Konzertkasse am Florentinum or Tourist Information Radebeul)
