A half day trip from Dresden: Pillnitz Castle and its fine Gardens

Pillnitz Castle is only a stone's throw away from Dresden's centre. Stone steps lead directly from the banks of the Elbe River up to the Chinese-style pleasure palace, which once belonged to the famous mistress of August the Strong, Countess Cosel. Cafés in Dresden

This time is tea time (or coffee time of course)! Dresden is known for being the capital of the "Kaffeesachsen" as we call them in German (Coffee Saxons in English). This beautiful expression describes people who love taking a coffee in the afternoon, mostly together with a nice piece of cake, for instance the typical Dresden one: Eierschecke. The result of this cliché: beautiful cafés all over town. This article describes a few of them, but if ever you discover a non-mentioned one you like, make sure to drop it in the comments! winter time in Dresden

To the beach! To Thailand or to the Caribbean Islands! Traveling like this is always tempting for us, especially in winter, and if you can afford it and have time, you can quickly book a cheap flight into the warmth. Ahhhhh sun... after all the winter months we have earned that too! But you don't always have to go far to do something good for yourself. Today I take you by the hand and show you what you can do in my hometown in the dark season. I'll show you places to keep you warm and get you through the rest of the winter. Continue reading »

Claras Dresden - Free Walking Tour starting at Lollis

Summer time... Clara, guest, Church of Our Lady and Ständehaus

A Free Tour is a city tour, for which you don’t buy a ticket. In our case, you just meet Clara at the hostel (usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays) and have a nice guided walk through town. At the end (Church of Our Lady) you tip your guide depending on how you liked the tour (and how much budget you got left). Here we go: Continue reading »
