This time is tea time (or coffee time of course)!
Dresden is known for being the capital of the "Kaffeesachsen" as we call them in German (Coffee Saxons in English). This beautiful expression describes people who love taking a coffee in the afternoon, mostly together with a nice piece of cake, for instance the typical Dresden one: Eierschecke. To the beach! To Thailand or to the Caribbean Islands! Traveling like this is always tempting for us, especially in winter, and if you can afford it and have time, you can quickly book a cheap flight into the warmth. A Free Tour is a city tour, for which you don’t buy a ticket. In our case, you just meet Clara at the hostel (usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays) and have a nice guided walk through town. At the end (Church of Our Lady) you tip your guide depending on how you liked the tour (and how much budget you got left).

A nice day trip from our hostel leads with the S-Bahn or by Bus to the winter sports centre Altenberg. The excursion is very worthwhile if you want to spend a few days in Dresden and its surroundings. The journey takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes. Even if all of Dresden's christmas markets are very different from each other and also very worth a visit, there is only one and true christmas market, to which everybody wants to go: The Striezelmarkt on the Old Market Square. The Striezelmarkt takes place since 1434 always during the advent season and therefore it is one of the oldest christmas markets in the whole world and the oldest christmas market in Germany.
