Meet the hostel staff – Marc

_DSC3527-klein

Marc ++ our man when it comes to photography, hiking and bike tours

Most crazy experience during your time here?

>> Indeed the nightshifts offer the best stories – so it’s quite difficult to choose the craziest one. Quite entertaining was one night, when one of our guests came down to ask how to get to the next hospital. After an intimate time  with a lot of booze in our room with the car, her boyfriend decided to find his way to the bathroom. But instead of choosing the ladder to climb down, he had chosen the fastest way down – the free fall. So he first hit quite hard the car with his angle before landing harsh on the ground. So the next trip led them to the hospital. Believe it or not – but the car had taken no damage at all :) Bless “made in Germany” I guess :) <<

The most beautiful experience at the hostel?

>> On one hand I remember a very impressive night walk to the Lilienstein with two of our guests. We left the hostel at 3 o’clock in the morning when it was already quite cold outside. When we arrived there we were honored with an impressive clear heaven full of stars. Who had known that it’s the coldest between 5 – 6 o’clock?! But soon after that we got rewarded with an awesome sunrise while being cuddled up in blankets and sipping hot coffee.
But I also love the BRN festival in June and I look forward to it each year! It’s a special occasion for our guests and also us. Each year many hostel friends come to stay and party with us. <<

What I love most about Lollis?

>> The atmosphere which surrounds you when you enter the hostel. No matter if you are staff or guest, everyone feels welcome and being in safe hands. Though on first sight it feels that all things don’t quite belong together: But if you stay a while all things become to one amazing impression. After nearly 8 years I still love to stay longer after my shifts to chat with other staff members or guests. Not a single day is the same as the previous day! Each day you meet new people, you listen to new stories and you gain fresh input. <<

There are two main locations – the “Junge Garde” and the “Filmnächte am Elbufer”

800px-Junge-Garde

Let’s start with the less known “Jungen Garde”, which is located in the city park “Großer Garten”.
You can find the whole program here.

You can buy the tickets here:

The “Filmnächte am Elbufer” are of course location No1 during the summer season. You’ll get a fantastic view across the river Elbe towards the skyline of Dresden at night while watching movies or listening to concerts.

High rope course in Dresden-Bühlau

During summer season we get questioned from time to time about any kinds of outdoor activities.

At first of course there are a wide variety of hiking or bike tours which crosses our minds and which we are happy to give you on your way exploring the surroundings of Dresden.

If you already did those things, or if you are traveling with a group of people looking to get some action, we can suggest the high rope course in Dresden-Bühlau.

We gave it a try to to past forward our impression out of first hand.

You can easily reach it by public transport (20min), by bike (30min) or by car (15min). Catch Tram 11 at „Bautzen-Rothenburger Straße) and get off at „Grundstraße“. From there it’s about 5min to walk.

uebersichtskarte

The high rope course is located in a wonderfull former ecological swimming pool. On the left and right end there are two hills located with 12 different parcours spread around reaching from easy to hard level. Each parkour contains of several elements which have to be mastered by you.

You’ll pass all kinds of ropes, beams, bridges and hurdles while you try to climb, balance, swing and jump to get to the next plattform.

_DSC2134

It’s of course handy to be free of giddiness :) But also little milquetoasts will get around well after accomplishing the first easy parcours. The safety system is set of one of the highest safety levels available. You are always secured with at least one so called Smartie at a time. While going through one element of the parkour you are always secured by both Smarties. So really nothing can go wrong at all.

smartbelay

As said before: Each parkour consist of several elements. At the beginning and at the end of each element there are platforms to rest. If you slip away of one beam, both Smarties will catch and safe you.

_DSC2142

After a short introduction about the safety system and about how to go through the parkour, you are off to explore all tracks and elements reaching from easy to hard. The most fun part is one of the many flying foxes. Here you „fly“ along a robe from one hill to the other side. Apart from the flying foxes you’ll get a great variety of beams, ropes, tubes to keep balance on and boards to be surfed from tree to tree.

_DSC2143

For sure you’ll be hungry after 2h of climbing. So bring some food and drinks with you or order from the bistro there. You can sit on the terrace where you have a nice overview of the park. There is also a BBQ which you can use.

_DSC2153

We really had a lot of fun there and can highly recommend it.

Prices:
Adults: weekday 17€ (weekend +2€)
Students: 16€ (weekend +2€)
